The Marathon Des Sables Lunacy! Madness! Insanity! Craziness! The
Marathon Des Sables is a six day stage race across the Moroccan Sahara.
The distance varies each year, but is normally equivalent to one and a
half marathons a day. Throughout the race competitors must carry all
there own food, and equipment. Only a daily ration of 9 liters of water
will be provided by the organizers. The competitors will have to face day time temperatures of up to 50 degrees whilst night time temperatures can fall to near freezing. Giant sand dunes one day and difficult rocky terrain the next make this one of the hardest ultra marathons in the world. The race attracts competitors from all over the world. Hence the media coverage of the event is also extensive, with over 150 journalists representing global TV networks and international magazines and newspapers. Through my endeavors I am aiming to raise enough money to provide MAG with a new landrover for their valuable work clearing mines around the world. This costs £27,000 I aim to provide a daily diary of events during the race which can be accessed through this site clicking on NEWS above. Sponsors will have the opportunity to be linked directly to this site and have their logo worn on clothes I will be wearing during the race, and which potentially will be viewed by a world audience.
